DESCRIPTION
This course prepares the officer to testify in court as an expert
regarding speed from skids. It teaches the student about identification
of skidmarks and the correct methods to determine speed from skidmarks.
Other topics include: proper measurement and documentation techniques,
calculation of friction coefficient, case preparation and courtoom
testimony. The student will participate in actual skid tests.
A review of basic algebra and physics principles is provided.
The course meets the guidelines established by POST. (POST Plan
IV)
The course includes computer software which
each student will receive. The student will be taught
how to use the software to make mathematical calculations based
on the equations taught in the class.
